The CDBS is a Medicare-funded initiative offering preventive and basic dental services to eligible children aged 2 to 17 years. Eligibility is typically determined through means testing, with families receiving Family Tax Benefit Part A or children receiving certain government payments (such as Austudy) qualifying for the program. Each eligible child can access up to $1,000 worth of dental services across a two-calendar-year period.
Covered services include routine check-ups, diagnostic radiographs, professional cleaning, preventive sealants, extractions, and endodontic treatments for older children.
The schedule excludes hospital-based dental procedures, orthodontic treatment by specialists, and aesthetic services like tooth whitening or veneer placement.
